Morecambe’s very first Shakespeare Festival: The Bard by the Beach will be taking place over the weekend of 22nd – 24th April 2016.

Planned to coincide with the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, events will be taking place across a multitude of venues in Morecambe (including the iconic Midland Hotel and Historic Winter Gardens Theatre) celebrating the Bard’s life and works.  Performers and artists from across the region and beyond will converge by the beach and bring the world’s most famous playwright’s work to life in a variety of exciting projects over a weekend full of events for all the family, including theatre, music, poetry, song, dance, art and a historical and artisan market.

Events include 5 adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays, a puppet version of the Forbidden planet, A midnight Matinee showing of the classic film : Theatre of Blood, Workshops that include you how to be a Shakespearean Actor or how to Stage Fight, Shakespeare Comedy Dinner Theatre, Wine Tastings, Music from the Haffner Orchestra celebrating Orchestral Shakespeare, and A Night of The Bard on Broadway for lovers of musicals..

The 3 day programme is being run by a number of local and regional artists and companies, including The Rose Company, About Theatre, Studio Footlights, ELART Productions, Drama Factory, Manchester Shakespeare Company, Rubbish Shakespeare Company, Wicked Workshops and Attic Door Productions.
